Up for sale is a very nice antique Nineteenth Century hard back book from 1878 titled: RAPHAEL and MICHELANGELO by Charles C. Perkins. This book is a critical and biographical essay on these two classic artists. This book is beautifully illustrated. The publication date 1878 is found on the title page. The author‘s dedication is dated December, 1877. This is the FIRST EDITION. I acquired this book from a private collection. It was gently handled and treasured done through the years. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Charles Callahan Perkins (March 1, 1823 - August 25, 1886) was an art critic, author, organizer of cultural activities, and an influential friend of design and of music in Boston. CONDITION: This old book is complete and intact, in very good condition for its age. The front cover is embossed and the spine has gold gilt lettering. The covers are in very good condition with light age-expected corner wear. The inside covers and endpapers are a dark brown. The inside covers are in good condition with minor cracking and separation present the front hinge (see photo). The front board is pulling a little from the binding. The back hinge is in very nice condition and the back boards is tight to the binding. The only writing present is a nice gift inscription neatly written on the second end paper that is dated Christmas 1877. The pages are in very good condition, very nice, pages are crisp, all pages are tight to the binding. There is no writing or markings on any pages. I did not see any foxing on any pages. The decorated spine is in very good-plus condition with very light shelf wear, the gold gilt lettering is easily read. This antique book comes from a smoke free home. This is a nice antique art history book that will be a nice addition to your collection. This art history book would also make for a great gift for someone special!
