Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This French pewter beaker dates to Tsar Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra, and Grand Duchess Olga's royal visit to France in 1896. The beaker commemorates the Franco-Russian Alliance of 1891, which lasted until 1917, and linked the French Third Republic and the Russian Empire, economically and militarily. Two symbols of the alliance were the Pont Alexandre III, one of the most beautiful bridges in Paris, and the Trinity Bridge in St. Petersburg. It was during the 1896 visit to Paris that Tsar Nicholas laid the first stone in the foundation of the bridge dedicated to his father, Tsar Alexander III, The pewter beaker is in excellent condition. The front side depicts a classic French allegorical Angel of Peace with a “Pax” crown above her head, holding a palm branch with a dove flying below. On the reverse side the escutcheon of city of Paris and the Romanov Imperial Russian coat of arms are joined by ribbon.
