Description: This is a fire alarm call box, probably made by the Gamewell Company, but there is no label or plate that declares its manufacturer. It is empty inside, except for the spring-loaded lever and a surface-mounted lock. The box has probably been repainted, and there is some minor chipping to the paint. The box measures approximately 9 1/2'' high, 6 1/4'' wide, and 3 1/8'' deep. It has bronze or brass fittings, including hinges, sping-loaded lever, lock and a plaque listing 17 patents. The oldest patent is 377,083 and was granted in 1888 to G.F. Milliken and H.B. Lyle, for an Electrical Auxiliary Signaling System. The most recent patent is 660,620 and was granted in 1900 to F.W. Cole, for a Non-Interference Signal Box. The box weighs 12 lbs 9 oz. before packing. Please email me if you have any questions about the piece.
