Description: Antique Thrasher plug chewing tobacco tag made by W. & McC. Tobacco Co. Tag is identified in Louis Storino's book as T340. After the Civil War demand for South tobacco soared. Since the competition was so tight tobacco companies issued these tags from 1870 to 1920 to identify themselves. This also helped prevent people from buying someone else inferior product as it made it harder for store owners to "refill" the tobacco with an inferior product. This is in absolutely amazing condition for the age. You don't see many like this especially with the prongs intact and not flattened out to store in a book etc. This is an antique item and a bargain for any collector! 1" x 1/3" approx This item is posted and managed courtesy of Bonanza
