Mr. Jack Adler, the old VP of production at DC during the silver-bronze era, painfully recounted to me the tale of himself and fellow DC artist Jerry Serpi cutting up thousands of pages of original comic line art and production art. He said it broke his heart to destroy all that beautiful artwork; But back over a third-of-a-century ago, nobody foresaw the future value of such exclusive pieces of comic-book history. This type of item allowed the editors to make sure the alignment and all the color registration was just right, even in the advertisements, for all of the front and the back, and on the cover interiors, for this comic. There are no holes in the spine area, of course, and it has a broad white border around all edges, and does include the entire back cover, and all the ads filling the interior portions. This was the final step, and once the editorial and creative staff reviewed it and approved it for use, to make sure there were no glitches or misprints, the actual comic-book could hit the press.
