Description: 'CHINESE MONEY CO. INC.' presents the "YEAR OF THE OX" MEDAL Seller's Note's: This is a super Brilliant beautiful coin from China. It is most defiantly a nice addition to any collection of Coins, or Exonumia, well worth the price I am asking for it, probably below what I should ask, it has all the signatures of a genuine Chinese Minted coin with a Rare and probably Very Small Mintage. The coin has been treated gently and has never been outside the capsule. It's GEM quality Mint State, struck well, carefully textured, and has no blemishes...what can I say?.....I dunno.I believe in the right settings this piece would be selling close to, at, or above $59.99, that's a subjective opinion, but I feel it would appropriate to ask for that price on this coin, but there's too much about the coin that i don't know, that i would think it unethical to arbitrarily charge that price. I pooled my personal resources together to aid me with this information that I am going to provide to you here in my 'Notes'. This coin is pretty hard to find examples of; meaning it is RARE, and the examples I could find had no real information on the coin, just a picture. What I gathered through a eBay friends, a friend of an Ebay friend, and the nice lady at the Chinese restaurant. What we probably have here, and all this is conjecture, but what we have is a gilt silvered copper medal, it's for celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Ox, there were many such kinds of medals made in China during the passed 1 year, and my source could not make out an identifiable mint (and if anyone could identify a Chinese mint mark, it would be he). This is not a bad thing however, because there is a Mint inscribed on the reverse of the coin. All 3 of my resource could make out that it said in broad terms, “Chinese Money Company, Incorporated” everyone agreed on that little generic phrase; that they see it says, "Chinese Money Company, Incorporated" clearly, I think it's reasonable to assume with my cohorts that there is a mint, but it is not one of the big popular famous mints....but, maybe it is you decide, because I don't know? The obverse shows the image of an ox, gilded in gold plate, the characters surrounding the ox all represent the 12 different Animals of the Chinese Lunar Zodiac. The characters within the picture are unfortunately undefined. A quote from my friend reads, “The 12 animal symbols along the outside look like they're in Manchu, a precursor to Mandarin, so they're a little squiggly compared to the more sharp characters elsewhere.” but they are surely each animal of the zodiac. The Reverse has a large Chinese character for ox. The text as it was relayed to me explains that there is a 12 year cycle before the Ox returns, the cycle is 12 years, 24 years, 36, years 48 years, etc. People born into a Year of the Ox are strong, hard working. The ox (like the people) of this Lunar Cycle are hard working, they work real hard, like the Ox is which is a hard working animal. An exact quote from my friend says, “To help you out, the top of the obverse is 脚踏实地吃苦耐劳 which means "Hard-working and down-to-earth" - These are just inspirational phrases assigned to each zodiac”. A type of horoscope/fortune type saying, and I believe a little bit of communist China propaganda with it too. Hard working people of China. It is non-magnetic, and is 40mm in diameter, it weighs 38.8g, or 1.25ozt with the protective capsule on it, and it is Proof struck...no date that I know of. A truly gorgeous coin that rivals the independent American mints, as well as mints like the Pobjoy mint, all very respected mints. You really can't go wrong with this coin. It is in fantastic shape and has been treated with great respect. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price includes the item, safe and secure packaging materials, postage and/or extra postage due to packaging, and other costs associated with the safe secure shipping and sale of your item, and a very small premium for me: with the promise that you will not be disappointed in your item(s). ----Browse, Bid, Buy, and Banter---- THAT'S MY MOTTO!!!
