Nicknamed Chula, it was founded in 1917 to serve the nation with dignity and integrity. The university was named after reformer King Chulalongkorn. As a child of the King of Siam, Chulalongkorn was one of the royal children taught by Anna Leonowens, portrayed in the King and I and Anna and the King. The Chula Zero Waste program is a joint effort between Chulalongkorn University’s Environmental Research Institute, administration and the network of CU faculty and students to reduce the amount of waste on campus to zero. This determination confirms CU’s commitment to be a sustainable “green” university that focuses on taking actions to save the environment with the cooperation of CU community members.
