Description: D.H. Lawrence - Fantasia of the Unconscious - Thomas Seltzer, 1922 - 1st Edition / 1st Printing - Matching dates present on title and on copyright page with no mention of later printings as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. This example is rubbed and edge worn with a hard indentation on front cover. Binding remains square and firm and internally very clean save for a strip pasted to the front paste down. The scarce dust jacket is soiled and edge worn with some chipping that is most noticeable to the crown of the spine. What makes this copy interesting is an ink inscription on the front fly page which has been (heartbreakingly) mostly washed out. There remains just enough ink to still be legible however. The ownership inscription reads: "Erskine & Helen Caldwell / 15 March 1926 / Atlanta ----". This is the Erskine Caldwell who would go on to publish some remarkable novels such as Tobacco Road and God's Little Acre. At the time (1926) he was indeed married to Helen Lannigan. They were wed in 1925 and their marriage lasted until 1938 and produced 3 children. During this earliest part of their marriage they did indeed live in Atlanta. This is an especially early relic in Caldwell's illustrious life as it predates his earliest published novel by a full 3 years. This is about one of the earliest Caldwell items one could hope to obtain.
