The owner of Gettysburg Relics was the proprietor of Artifact at 777 on Cemetery Hill in Gettysburg for a number of years, and we are now selling on eBay. The Rosensteel collection of artifacts are not recent recoveries, and they pre-date the 1960s. We have very few pieces left from The Trostle Farm. The park still owns the majority of relics once owned by the Rosensteel Family. THIS WAS AMONG A SMALL NUMBER OF RELICS IN THIS GROUPING FROM THE ELLWOOD CULLISON COLLECTION, WHO WAS A GETTYSBURG RESIDENT. HIS COLLECTION BECAME PART OF THE ROSENSTEEL FAMILY COLLECTION OF GETTYSBURG. THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG ~ BEHIND THE RECREATION FIELD ~ THE AREA OF PICKETT'S CHARGE ~ NEAR LONG LANE AND THE MODERN COLT PARK NEIGHBORHOOD ~ ALSO AN AREA OF JULY 1ST AND JULY 2ND FIGHTING ~ This Civil War relic, the center section from an iron horse watering bit, was recorded as having been recovered in the area behind the Gettysburg Recreation Field by Ellwood Cullison and later became part of the famous Rosensteel Collection of Gettysburg. It measures 6 1/4" long and 1/2" thick, and weighs 4.1 ounces. The links are fused at the center. Which area is the specific area 'behind the Gettysburg Recreation Field' is not clear, but it seems to be the area somewhere around the modern Gettysburg Recreation Park. In the 1970s, the Recreation Field was designated for use by the Gettysburg Fire Department, and that is all we could really find about it. It is with certainty that it falls somewhere within the circled areas on the attached maps. A provenance letter will be included. We include as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are original identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Land on Battlefields that is now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, was acquired after the relics were recovered.
