Description: Artist Peggy Hancock Black Curtis Esplin Peggy Hancock was born in Safford Arizona, many years ago, the middle child of seven siblings. She has loved to draw and has been an artist since she could hold her pencil straight, mostly self-taught although she did attend BYU for a time. She married Howd King Black in 1956 and was widowed a few short years later. In 1970, she married Alden Curtis. They had been married for nearly 31 years when he passed away... it was during these years that she did the bulk of her artwork. Her deep religious beliefs and her love of the Native American people who neighbor our community is reflected in her beautiful pencil drawings. She worked at Thriftee Supermarket for many years, and was often known to have her camera out taking pictures of her customers and fellow employees so that she could draw them. One year she surprised her bosses Peggy Jo and Jake Schroeder with drawings she had done depicting them and their first grandchild as Native Americans (all three can be seen on the print selection). Peggy is a local treasure, with large original paintings hanging in two area churches, a funeral home and Thriftee Supermarket, along with her pencil prints in many other businesses. She also made original porcelain dolls for several years, which gave she and Alden opportunities to travel as they sold them at doll shows. Following Alden's death in 2001, she became a pen-pal to a real-life cowboy / rancher, Israel Mack Esplin from Orderville, Utah. She's always had a thing for cowboys, by the way. In 2002, she married him and moved to his home. Safford misses her! My mother Peggy is an amazingly talented artist who has never become as widely known as she deserves to be. She has also never had the money that a person with talent like hers should rightly have, mostly because of her generosity. She tends to give everything away and refuses to be paid for most everything she does for people. She always loves taking trips to visit her many great grandchildren and grandchildren, she's always bringing little gifts for them. Seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren smiling and playing with her little gifts is the most happiness and joy my mother feels. My sweet mother is 90 years old now, with all of her expenses for medical bills, she is limited financially and she cannot visit her family as much as she would like. I would like to help her sell these prints to help her with her expenses so she can visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren as much as she wants to. We also want to share her talent with everyone and hope you will enjoy these wonderful prints as much as we do. These prints will be printed by a professional photo printing shop, currently we have 3 standard sizes: 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10.
