The hydraulic tops in these cars, while way ahead of their time in terms of hydraulic and mechanical engineering, did not utilize superior materials in their construction, simply because modern materials didn't exist 20 years ago. The seal material used in the cylinders decays with time, regardless of mileage or use. I saw cars with 200k miles and 9k miles have the same problem: a leaking hydraulic top. Hence why I decided to take matters into my own hands. I designed my own seals and commissioned a German seal manufacturer to make then out of modern Viton rubber, being extra corrosion resistant while simultaneously remaining flexible to avoid pinching and deteriorating inside the cylinders.
