Vintage Brower 845 Egg Incubator (Model 11400-3) with Upgrades

Description: Vintage Brower Model 845 Metal Incubator with Upgrades It measures about 15 inches in diameter and 7 inches tall. Originally a still air incubator, I've added a fan (see more information below). It comes with a water dish and thermometer, but no instruction manual. I installed a brand new heating element as the original one was not working. I added a second redundant heating element as a backup, so no worries of a heating element failure in the middle of an incubation cycle. I added a slow-speed fan to circulate the interior air and eliminant any temperature gradients. Since there are differing opinions on incubator fans, I also installed a fan control switch so you can configure the fan as 'Always OFF' or 'Always ON' or 'Only ON when Heating Element Active'. Everyone seems to have their preferences with incubators and fans, so I've made it fully configurable. I kept the original wafer thermostat as the temperature control because it is still working and it's a proven simple design. The adjustment screw threads thru the top of the incubator lid, so you can make your slight temperature adjustments with the unit closed. As there is no instruction manual, I added a label plate indicating the direction to turn the screw to change the temperature so you don't have to remember. There is a wing nut that holds the adjusting screw in place; to adjust the temperature, you loosen the wing nut and then slightly turn the adjusting screw up or down and then retighten the wing nut to again secure the screw at the new setting; small changes are recommended as it doesn't take much to alter the temperature a degree or two. I ran the unit for several days and monitored the internal temperature with a digital thermometer. The unit held a constant temperature as intended, cycling on and off as appropriate, keeping a steady 100 degree internal temperature. I did minor adjustments up a few degrees and down a few degrees to test it out further and that worked too. I left it set for approximately 100 degrees. The thermometer fluid has separated into two parts within the tube, so it doesn't accurately read the temperature. But I've read online this is a typical issue that happens with old thermometers and it can be resolved by cooling it carefully and slowly with some dry ice, but alas I didn't have any of that handy to give it a try. But for those interested in trying, it's a cool vintage thermometer. For those that like the vintage look, but enjoy some upgrades, this unit is for you.
